My first rejection letter

June 23, 2011

Maybe it’s not normal to be this excited over a rejection letter, but! A few days ago I mentioned that I submitted to Fantasy Magazine. They rejected me, which is not a surprise, since I’ve heard from absolutely everyone that in order to get published you have to first get used to being rejected again and again and again. I also submitted a few other stories to other magazines, and I’m going to continue submitting until these stories get published!

Anyway, the awesome news is that my very first rejection letter was not a form rejection. It was personalized, and he said that my story was nicely written and he enjoyed reading it, although it didn’t quite win him him over, and that he looks forward to my next submission.

Awesome.

I’m submitting to two different magazines with themed issues this month, with pieces that I’ve written specifically for them. Hopefully at least one of them will say yes. I’ll let you know.
